The Karnataka High Court issued its new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) on Monday 18th January 2021. This Standard Operating Procedure is to take effect from Wednesday 27th January 2021. It established certain rules regarding entry of vehicles of Judges, Advocates, Staff, litigants, and Officers of the State Government. It also relaxed the restrictions that had been put in place regarding the use of canteens.
Starting from next Wednesday, the canteens can be used subject to certain conditions, such as this that at all times the canteen should not be occupied by more than half the capacity of the canteen. Further, all the guidelines, for social distancing, that have been put in place by the Central Government must be followed at all times, not just in the Canteen but in the Court premises in general.
The Court has withdrawn the relaxation it had provided to the Advocates with respect to their dress code. It has also directed that all the advocates appearing before it will have to wear the regular dress code starting from Monday 1st February 2021. Previously, The Court had allowed the advocates appearing before it to wear a white shirt, white salwar kameez, and a sober colored saree with a plain white neckband in place of the regular dress code for Advocates.
The Standard Operating Procedure also stated that the changes introduced by it are experimental in nature and that if the Court observes that people are not adhering to the guidelines put in place by the Central Government regarding social distancing, then the Court might recall said relaxations.
The Standard Operating Procedure also mentioned that along with changes introduced by it, the previously existing Standard Operating Procedure will continue to govern the Judges, Advocates, Staff, litigants, and Officers of the State Government.
