The High court of Delhi passed an order on the 14th of January, declaring that eleven benches of the High Court will hold physical hearings from the 18th of January 2021. The present order arrived in light of the decrease of severity of the COVID 19 pandemic within the National Capital Territory of Delhi.
As per the recent order, the arrangement and division of the eleven High Court benches are as follows:
The order further specified that the remainder of the High Court Benches would still continue to conduct and hear cases in an online mode through video conferencing according to a schedule that will soon be listed on the website of the Delhi High Court. In addition, the order also specifies that all the benches of the High Court will continue to hear cases in accordance with the existing arrangements, including cases and matters which have been constituted in the last three preceding years. Furthermore, the order provides that the courts of the Joint Registrars will conduct cases both in an online mode through video conferencing and on alternate days through physical hearings, which shall also take effect from the 18th of January 2021. The Court of the Joint Registrar has also been instructed to the recording of evidence in all proceedings.
The order notifies that all other unimportant routine cases and non-urgent matters pending before the High Court and scheduled on the 18th of January to the 20th of February will be suspended en bloc until the months of March and April. The Order further requests all Advocates, lawyers, litigants and other visitors of the High Court complex for physical hearings to strictly conform to the conventions of social distancing and other guidelines relating to COVID 19 that are provided by the Union and State Governments.
