The Supreme Court yesterday mentioned that it will consider a PIL with the objective of inclusion of legal officials, lawyers, judges, and court staff in the Covid-19 vaccine priority list. A division bench under the leadership of Chief Justice of India posted after two weeks the petition filed by Arvind Singh informing that judiciary and lawyers should also be considered as frontline workers with doctors, police, sanitation workers at par and should be getting a priority for the covid vaccine.
Amik Khemka was the advocate appearing for the petitioner who submitted that the claim of the judiciary for the covid-19 vaccine has not been considered. There was a division bench, also comprising Justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian, who said that it will consider the PIL, petition. When the counsel appealing requested for a nearer date, the bench posted the matter after two weeks.
last month, the Supreme Court Bar Association had directed the Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad to seek the inclusion of legal fraternity among the category of 'frontline workers' for the covid-19 vaccine.
Provided letter requests for "Judges, judicial staff and members of the legal fraternity" should be included in the category of the front line workers appealing so that appropriate remedial measures are taken to prioritize and extend this vaccination program to this class of the citizenry.
Considering the fact that the judicial fraternity is essential in the clearing of the pending cases amid this covid-19 induced pandemic, the safety and health of the legal workers is also important and the court has considered the fact and has noticed the respective ministers take necessary action on the same.
