Shiv Sena legislator Ravindra Waikar and Manisha Raikar have filed a civil defamation suit against Kirit Somaiya former Member of Parliament seeking 100 cores as damages.
Absence of consideration has constrained Somaiya to turn into a consideration searcher through unlawful methods at the expense of Waikar's advantage." the plea states.
Somaiya is asserted to have made a few 'defamatory' and 'baseless' charges against the Waikar couple, which was conveyed by a few print and electronic media platforms.
Waikar has documented the current suit after Somaiya recorded a 'sham' policy grievance. Now, Waikar apprehends that Somaiya, through legal methods, may move toward the authorities and misdirect them about the Walkers.
A month ago, Somaiya had accused Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Waikar of misusing their positions to buy properties in Alibaug, which were then moved to the names of their spouses, Rashmi Thackeray and Manisha Waikar. Somaiya asserted that the Waikar couple had obtained a specific plot of land from late Anvay Naik, an inside architect, in 2014.
Waikar has claimed that:
Somaiya’s statements are grossly defamatory and trying to portray an illusionary existence of several non-existing profitable transactions for commercial benefits;
That the allegations, statements, and imputations contained during a letter issued by Somaiya are false and untrue to the knowledge of the Somaiya; and
Those statements have been spoken and written by Somaiya maliciously.
That these statements were made to urge political mileage.
Specifically, reference is made to Somaiya's charges that Waikar and his wife bought properties in Alibaug which were not uncovered in his political race oath. The claims have caused him "loss of reputation" and "mental distress", says Waikar.
Against this setting, the Waikar couple has mentioned that Somaiya is liable for making bogus claims against them and has harmed their reputation and goodwill openly, for which he is responsible to pay damages.
