Several activists were arrested by the police due to the allegation of inciting Bhima-Koregaon Violence. One of the activist-lawyer, Sudha Bharadwaj who had been arrested, issued a statement refusing the claims made by the police.
The counsel on behalf of her said that the letter issued to media by police is false and has been written with an intention to criminalize her and other activists. She further said that an attempt has been made to delegitimize democratic activities by alleging that they have been funded by Maoists and people have been deliberately named so as to incite hatred towards them.
It was further pointed out the police has been trying to incite hatred towards various organizations who have exposed human rights violation in Chattisgarh and also there has been an effort to delegitimize an organization. The counsel on her behalf also denied having solicited any funds from any banned organizations.
The Additional DG stated in a press conference that one of the letters between an activist arrested and Moists spoke of planning another Rajiv Gandhi-like incident to end Modi-raj. The investigation established designs to overthrow the stablished government in India using weapons from Russia and China through Nepal.
It was further stated that in a program on Republic TV, Arnab Goswami claimed that Bharadwaj had written a letter to Maoist stating that a Kashmir like situation has to be created. Sudha refused the allegations and expressed surprise as to how a document purporting to contain evidence of serious crimes can surface in the studio of Arnab Goswami.
It was further highlighted that the letter which has been issued to the media by the Police and the letter which has been flashed in the Republic TV is the same letter and the letter was not even brought before either the Pune Court or the CJM, while seeking permission to take her away to Pune.
