Supreme Court of India calls for Preventive Measures in Apex Court amid spike in COVID cases in Delhi

Courtesy/By: Kadam Hans  |  12 Apr 2023     Views:7123

The Supreme Court of India has recently called for preventive measures to be implemented in the Apex Court amid the spike in COVID cases in Delhi. The move comes as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of judges, lawyers, and court staff, as well as to help prevent the spread of the virus in the court premises.

The second wave of COVID-19 has hit India hard, with Delhi being one of the worst affected states. The rapid surge in cases has put immense pressure on the healthcare system, and the government has been forced to impose strict measures to curb the spread of the virus. In light of the situation, the Supreme Court has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety of all those who enter its premises.

One of the first measures taken by the court is to limit the number of cases being heard physically. Only urgent matters will be heard in courtrooms, and the rest will be conducted virtually. This move is expected to reduce the number of people coming to the court and limit the possibility of infection. The court has also directed that no more than two lawyers will be allowed to represent each party in a case.

The court has also set up a committee to monitor the situation and ensure that all preventive measures are being implemented. The committee will be headed by the senior-most judge and will have representatives from the Bar Council and the Supreme Court Bar Association. The committee will also monitor the court's adherence to COVID guidelines issued by the government.

The Supreme Court has also directed that all those entering the court premises must wear masks and maintain social distancing. The court staff has been instructed to sanitize the premises regularly, and the use of hand sanitizers has been made mandatory. The court has also directed that no person with COVID-like symptoms will be allowed to enter the premises.

The Supreme Court's proactive measures are commendable and demonstrate a strong commitment to the health and safety of all those who enter the court premises. The court's role in maintaining the rule of law is essential, and it is vital that it continues to function even during these challenging times. However, the safety of those who enter the court premises must be ensured, and the court's proactive measures will help in achieving that goal.

In conclusion, the Supreme Court of India's call for preventive measures amid the spike in COVID cases in Delhi is a much-needed move to ensure the safety of all those who enter the court premises. The court's proactive measures demonstrate its commitment to the health and safety of all stakeholders while ensuring that the rule of law is maintained. It is hoped that other institutions and organizations will follow the Supreme Court's example and take proactive measures to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
