Mohammed Shamsuddin who was convicted for his involvement in Rajdhani Express blasts in in the year 1993 was released on Parole by the Supreme Court in its 17th January 2019 order. This is the case when there were several blasts in 6 different Rajdhani Express Trains across the country. Out of these blasts 2 people died and several were injured. The TADA special court convicted 16 people under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (now repealed) for their involvements in these blasts.
In a writ petition filed by one of the accused Mohammed Shamsuddin seeking to be released on parole was heard by the court on 17th January 2019. Temporary release of a prisoner on certain conditions before completion of his sentence is called Parole. The division bench comprising of Justice UU Lalit and Justice KM Joseph allowed the convicted to be released on parole of 21 days. The court observed that since the convict had been in prison for past 24 years & had good character he may be released on parole. The court also said that the main ground for release on parole is to maintain family relations& social ties. Following order was passed by the court –
