With the onset of the New Year the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India witnessed changes in the collegium. One of the most important aspects is that Justice Madan B Lokur has retired from the collegium and Justice Arun Mishra has become the part of the Collegium inorder to appoint the judges to the Supreme Court. The composition of the newly formed collegium is as follows. It is ordered in terms of seniority-
CJI Ranjan Gogoi
Justice A K Sikri
Justice S A Bobde
Justice N V Ramana
Justice Arun Mishra
The current working strength of the judges is 26 , but it was after the retirement of Justices Joseph and Lokur there was a rise in the vacancy of the Supreme Court Judges to 5. It is also significant to note that with the consequent retirement of Justice Kurian Joseph on November 30, Justice Ramana became the part of the collegium. The collegium in its last decision had rightly decided about the elevations of Justices Rajendra Menon who is at present the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court and Pradeep Nandrajog who is the Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court to Supreme Court.
As per the sources and speculation the newly formed collegium will meet on 4th January 2019.
