Delhi and Punjab governments announced complete closure of schools till Sunday due to the worsening air quality in the region. The weather department has forecasted that situation is unlikely to improve as very dense fog is expected to cover many places in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and north Rajasthan in the morning hours.
People rushed to buy masks to protect themselves from the toxic smog as level of particulate matter over Delhi touched 517 microgram per cubic metre, which is ten times more than the safe level.
The air quality was equally bad in National Capital Region .Over 250 flights were delayed at Delhi airport, causing spill over delays across the country. NGT has banned construction and industrial activities in Delhi-NCR till November 14.

It directed the Delhi government to seriously consider a ban on further construction in the city to the extent possible and implementing the 'odd-even' vehicle usage scheme as a short term measure. Delhi lieutenant governor Anil Baijal on Wednesday banned entry of trucks into the capital until further instructions.
