The Karnataka High Court heard a suo moto petition on the implementation of the Apex Court order regarding the removal of illegal religious statutes placed in public streets, parks or any other public places post September 29-2009. The division bench comprising of Chief Justice Abhay Oka and Justice H T Narendra Prasad directed the government to submit a report stating the actions taken against the removal of illegal religious statutes to date and also asked the state whether any policy decision has been decided regarding this matter. The Advocate General Udhaya Holla appeared on behalf of the State, asked the court for a time of six weeks to file a detailed report regarding the matter and also place on record the compliance reports if any filed to the Supreme court. He also said that a meeting was held on Monday with the Government officials regarding it and actions will be initiated. The Court on hearing the plea accepted it and has directed the State Government to give information on 16th August 2019 regarding the identification of illegal religious statues in public places and also the actions initiated against it. The Court also clarified “Pendency of petition will not stop the State and its authorities from taking actions or demolishing the illegal religious statutes”.
