Under the new Motor Vehicles Act, contractors are now liable to be penalized for not discharging their duties properly. Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced strict penalty for those contractors who have either constructed poor roads or have failed to maintain the infrastructure in any manner.

He also said that due to the poor construction of roads and failure to maintain them properly people meet with accidents. If the Act is applicable to the common people it should also make those responsible for the construction of roads responsible and thus liable.
The Motor Vehicle Act has been amended and it now penalizes every person heavily who are liable for the traffic rules violation or who do not possess the necessary documents like Driving License or Pollution under Control Certificate etc. the penalties have increased way too much than what it was in the earlier Act.
It is now announced that the rule should be the same for everyone and thus the contractors who construct roads and other infrastructure are to be made liable up to Rs. 1 lakh.
The Motor Vehicles Act was passed in the month of July and came into force from September 1st, 2019. Since it has been enforced the Act is getting opposed by people all over the country. It has not yet been implemented in some states while it has been implemented in some states after reducing the penalties mentioned in the Act. The first state to do this was Gujarat. Following Gujarat, the government of Kerala has sought to review the legislation and make a reduction in penalties wherever possible.
All this was done in public interest and to support those people who cannot afford to pay such high fines.
