Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) is all set to form Governments both in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, the much speculated results of the assembly election came out today. While the BJP retained power in Gujarat with a record sixth straight win, it trounced its rivals in Himachal Pradesh to dethrone Congress from the state.
In Gujarat, the home state for the Prime Minister Narendra Modi the BJP won 99 seats in the 182 member assembly, giving it a clear simple majority. However it failed to achieve its projected target figure i.e. 150+. On the other hand the congress won 77 seats under the leadership of its newly elected president Rahul Gandhi. Although congress failed to reach the magic figure, it achieved the most seats in the state since 1985.
In Himachal Pradesh, The saffron party won 44 Assembly seats in the 68 member Assembly House, while the Congress party managed to win only in 21 seats. However, there have been a major setback for BJP in Himachal Pradesh, as its Projected CM candidate Prem Kumar Dhumal lost from Sujanpur.
Although congress President Rahul Gandhi accepted the verdict and congratulated The Prime Minister Modi via a tweet, his party claimed a moral victory in Gujarat. Many congress leaders as well as its allies like Patidar Leader Hardik Patel have also made allegations of EVM tempering.
