The norms set up by the National Green Tribunal violated by the construction sites in the outskirts of Lucknow City, but also in the prominent areas within areas of city as well. The Lucknow Development Authority has not taken any action yet despite a order by the district administration to solve the pollution problems in October last year, dust particles from the construction sites are the major issue giving rise to the pollution in the city as specified by the NGT. Further the NGT said that the construction sites must control the dust by using barricades around the construction sites that is to be dine by mounting green net on the building and sprinkling water to prevent dust mixing in the air and as according to the rule whosoever violates this rule must be fined with Rs.500 that can extend to Rs.5,000.
The sites in Jankipuaram, Gomtinagar, Niralanagar, Alambagh and Aashina are flouting the norms, none of the sites were covered with the green sheets or barricades. They was not even sprinkling of water to prevent dust mixing in air. Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) said "we are into the process to form teams for reality check in all the eight areas of the city, along with the other zones that are reported being violating the norms by the National Green Tribunal (NGT), we will start inspection from the first week of November after the Diwali Holidays".
It's been more than a year now but the Lucknow Development Authority is only planning to form a team of members just to investigate the construction sites, by now they should have taken some actions against the violaters of the norms. Setting green sheets and sprinkling water to minimize the pollution in the ongoing construction projects is not a new concept in the country already a practice in many cities but Lucknow is yet to understand the seriousness about the pollution caused by not following it and even neglecting the National Green Tribunal's orders.
