Environmentalist Balbir Singh Seechwal called on people to oppose the District Administration's move of pruning trees with the kali bein rivulet in sultanpur (lodhi) during a Facebook live session on Monday. Seechwal also said that they planted tress on the bank of kali bein almost 16 years ago but the forest department authorities are pruning them, the forest department cleared the whole area and the trees that were planted. He also said about the planting of trees by the government on 550th Guru Nanak"s birth anniversary he stated "The Punjab Government had started a project of planting approx more then 550 saplings of tress on the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, that is totally against the concept given by Guru Nanak".
Balbir Singh Seecwal who is also a member National Green Tribunal for monitoring river pollution mentioned the fact that the forest department never took interest in maintaining the trees situated on river banks or never took a initiative to plant them but now mercilessly axing them without any specific reason. On the other side the forest department is saying that the pruning of the trees is for security reasons as the President and the Prime Minister are visiting in the state, meanwhile the authorities of district administration is saying that there has been no trees cut or axed and if if anyone does so action will be taken against them.
But the side of the forest department has some different story that the cutting of tress is permitted by the district administration authorities for the purpose of the visit of President and prime minister, both the sides are said to playing the passing on the blame game nobody is ready to take a initiative to stop the axing of tress which is not required that is for the sole purpose to clear the roads that are near the river banks, the Central Government is taking adopting many policies to curb the pollution levels but if there are no tress how can there be environment safety and the district and the forest department are not the same terms to help the process.
