Aaditya Thackeray, son of Uddhav Thackeray, will make his electoral debut from this constituency in the October 21 Maharashtra polls. But, many of the locals are not ready to vote unless they get an assurance about the rehabilitation project. According to the reports the slums was torn down in 2012 and a 23 storey slum rehabilitation authority building was to be constructed. But the construction was stopped due to lack of sufficient funds.
According to the locals after there homes were demolished and torn down they were given some fixed amount monthly to cover their expenses but after 2016 they did not receive any such payments. Even the work of the building is not completed yet. The locals have also approached MLA's of various parties but they haven't received any assurances. The locals have been suffering too much because of all the pending construction process. The locals also requested the parties to shift them to the transit camps. But,they were left to fend for themselves.
Worli is home to a large number of slums. Some of the areas have been developed but the others are struck. Even the skyscrapers and the posh neighborhoods stand over a sea of dingy slums and chawl that cry for attention. On the outskirts of Mumbai, around 30 housing societies in Panvel have also started a campaign to boycott the polls over lack of development. Banners displayed outside these apartment complexes have messages like, “No Road, No Development, No Vote” and “No Water, No Vote”. According to locals, there are approximately 45,000 voters here.
According to a resident of Navi Mumbai, locals have been dealing with a water crisis for over more than four years, and complaints to authorities have gone unnoticed. They got water only during the first year and later they got the water tankers which made the people of the society really sick. An activist has started a campaign "If you do not work,we will not vote for you". People from Gandhi Nagar in Worli, where Shiv Sena scion Aaditya Thackeray is making his electoral debut, and several housing societies in Panvel say they plan to boycott the October 21 elections after being neglected by politicians.
