The Indian navy ship INS Jalashwa will be sailing today from Colombo port with 700 Indian nationals to India as per the II phase of operation ‘Samudra Setu’ which is a part of the Vande Bharat mission to bring back the Indian citizens stuck overseas.
The vessel reached the port this morning and will be departing with the passengers to Tuticorin located in Tamil Nadu. It will consequently send back another 700 personnel from Male in Maldives to Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu, as per the Indian Navy.
The amphibious transport harbor will start the process of evacuation in Colombo with the help of jetty service that would help the evacuees present on the ship.
As per the current requirements of continuing health protocols and physical distancing the ship has been divided particularly in 3 zones – orange, green and red. The orange zone is an area with a team for taking care of the people who will be evacuated. The green zone is where the sailors and officers are staying and the red zone is the area where all the evacuees will be accommodating.
The instructions for safety against COVID-19 and the code of behaviors for the same are being circulated by the commands and naval headquarters respectively, said the Commander Gaurav Nagpal, the executive officer on INS Jalashwa.
The precautions regarding COVID-19 such as physical distancing norms have been taken care of for those on board.
Those who are being sent back are given a new mask during the time of embarkation subsequent to a new mask every day till the day they reach their designated port in tuticorin, sanitizers are also available at the medical desk and help desk for the evacuees.
As a step to stop the spread of the hazardous virus , the officers and sailors who interact or come in contact with the evacuees have put on personal protective equipment (PPE) kits.
