Amarinder Singh, the Chief Minister of Punjab, on Saturday, announced that the lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak will be extended till 30th of June.
Though experts have suggested to not allow the functioning of hospitality services and shopping malls in the state, the chief minister said that his government will follow the guidelines of the Centre for lockdown 5.0.
The Centre issued a guideline on Saturday relaxing the current lockdown guidelines which are due on May 31st
The nationwide containment lockdown has been extended till 30th of June but hospitality services, hotels and shopping malls will be allowed to start operation from 8th of June, stated the Union home ministry.
Mr Singh decided this after an on-ground assessment of the situation regarding COVID through a video conference with the health experts and cabinet ministers as per a government release.
The Chief Minister addressed the nation through his weekly live sessions on Facebook that the COVID-19 situation is far from over and he would continue to take tough measures to save the lives of people.
The Chief Minister insisted his people to maintain extreme caution as well as all such health norms to help the state government to stop the further spread of the disease to a wider audience.
He has issued distribution of face masks and ration kits to the needy and poor through Bharat Bhushan Ashu. Director-General of Police Dinar Gupta has mentioned that wearing face masks are mandatory and over Rs, 1 crore has been collected from offenders.
Asha workers are hired to undertake health surveillance from door to door across several districts and they will be paid Rs 2 per head.
The government is also taking serious measures to stop the smuggling of liquor into Punjab. On the threat of locust, the Chief Minister has said that all the necessary precautions have been set to place in all the seven districts surrounding Rajasthan and Haryana.
