On Thursday the Uttar Pradesh government was directed by the Allahabad High Court to conduct mass testing of Covid-19, particularly in the high-risk cities of Ghaziabad, Kanpur, Gautambudh Nagar, Agra, Meerut, Varanasi and Bareilly.
A Division Bench of Allahabad High court comprising of Justice Siddhartha Verma and Justice Ajit Kumar order that the ‘combing exercise’ which was being carried out in the city of Prayagraj by the Authorities, should be carried out in the whole state and specially in the cities of high risk mentioned above.
The court was hearing the case ‘In Re Inhuman Conditions at Quarantine Centres and For Providing Better Treatment to Corona Positive’, this PIL was registered for addressing the bad conditions of quarantine centres present in the state, but through this case, the court was also overseeing the steps taken by the state authorities for preventing the spread of corona virus.
The court has ordered the advocate general to submit a report on this on the next date i.e. on 13 July, it stated “On the next date fixed, the Additional Advocate General shall also inform as to how the operation of tracing, testing and treatment which is being done in the district of Prayagraj is also being done in the above named districts.”
The court also criticized the gatherings outside public places and ordered the authorities to be present on the next hearing and to show why they are not removing these gatherings.
“The Government Institutions and the private Institutions which are being plagued by the presence of unauthorized shops outside their premises may also write to the Nagar Nigam and the Police for their removal and may also send copies of their complaints/ applications to the High Court.”
The court also ordered the authorities to inform the court about how the disposal of the masks would be done, and asked the authorities to advertise the covid-19 helpline no. in the front page of the newspapers daily, to cope up with the availability of Rapid Testing Kits as required by the health department and also to install new RT-PCR machines to expediate the testing process.
