A total number of 118 thousand confirmed cases have been reported from the state of Uttar Pradesh as of 9th August 2020. This makes the situation very alarming in some particular cities and towns of Uttar Pradesh including its capital city of Lucknow as well as Prayagraj. The recent hike in the number of active cases in Prayagraj and Lucknow led to the issuing of a notice by the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court notifying that the court will remain closed from the 12th of August to the 14th of August, 2020. However, the notice issued has also mentioned that any urgent or pressing matter shall be taken upon such dates either by the Chief Justice of Allahabad or before any senior judge in Lucknow.
The notice issued on this behalf mentions the following:
“I am satisfied that the circumstances demand to continue non-sitting of courts. Accordingly, it is directed that there shall be non-sitting of courts on the 12th, 13th, and the 14th of August 2020, in the high court of judicature at Allahabad. Further on the aforementioned dates only the urgent matters mentioned before the Chief Justice and Senior judges at Lucknow, respectively shall be taken and no other court shall be having sitting.”
Thus, the notice made is very clear that all administrative, as well as judicial functions, shall not take place in the High Court on these very days making an exception however only for matters of urgent nature.
Further, both physical and e-filing on the 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, and 16th of August will not be entertained.
The backlog of the matters with fresh filing sections and stamp reporting (Civil/Criminal) has however been kept in mind by the court and therefore in this regard, it has said that with the required number of staff the court shall function till the backlog gets cleared.
