Haryana Space Application Research Centre (HARSAC) in association with MCG has developed software to reduce manual intervention and interaction between officials and public with regards to property tax collection in a bid to curb cases of corruption. According to MCG officials, the payment process would be taken online in the first phase and the grievance redressal process would be taken online in the next. Till the last financial year, MCG had outsourced property tax collection to MapmyIndia.com. However, this year, the company’s contract has not been renewed.
Dr Sultan Singh, a scientist at HARSAC has said” As of now, when an application for any changes in a property tax receipt is made, the work is done manually as it is passed from one desk to another. However, now, all this will be taken online. In case there is a concern with a particular file, it can be marked as an observation to a senior official or the commissioner, as applicable.” MCG commissioner Yashpal Yadav said, “I think we will be able to come up with a system in which any corrections in tax amounts or records could be done online, eliminating the need for people to visit an official when there is an issue.”
On the benefits of the online process, Yadav said, “Besides checking corruption, a lot of time will be saved which officials can use to do other work.”
