The High court of Delhi made a submission that the non-inclusion of the subject computer science as the part of subjects for the merit calculation for BSc (Hons) Physics and other related courses is not acceptable and further submitted that the calculation of computer science is necessary for the admissions in the current year 2020-2021.
The same was directed to the Delhi University that they should take a look at the course and the eligibility criteria for the same and should modify the changes recommended in time so that the student's do not face any of the difficulty in the process of admissions in their desired course.
This issue of whether the marks of the computer science subject should be added in the calculation of the merit list of BSc physics was raised by a student of class XII who has passed out of the science stream from the ICSE Board and wish to take up the BSc (Hons)Physics as the course in college. The court in the reply was very much affirmative.
Further submitted that the relevance of computer science in the BSc (Hons) Physics and other related subjects at DU is very much needed for the students for better understanding of the subject and the court has put a lot of emphasis on the importance and the relevance of the subject of computer science in all the streams from Science till Arts because there are a lot of technological developments taking place.
The students will be needing the education of computer science in subjects like Economics, Statistics, and Finance because of the development in technology and further need of the subject the students are pursuing the computer science which would help them to tackle the future world and competition.
Further the new National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 had put a lot of stress on the flexibility of the subjects and choosing the subjects of their own choice and considering the same order the court has directed the Delhi university that changes to be made in the eligibility criteria for the forthcoming years and submitted that, "no changes could be made in the current academic year".
