The Centre, through its counter-statement, tries to prove that most of the farmers are happy with the current legislation of the farmer’s bill, as the latest law gives them more than one opportunity to sell their crops. The centre has prayed the Supreme court not to be carried away by the protests and riots in the country regarding the new farmer’s bill. The centre claims that an impression has been created that the bill has been passed without adequate consultation, and the current affidavit attempts to squash that notion.
The petition claims that the new law has been deliberated by the government adequately for 2 decades before legislating. Also, the farmers involved in the protests are not only breaking law and order, by blocking roads and highways but also are not open to engaging with the government. The petition alleges that the farmers are using the media and social networks to create a wrong perception of the current farmers’ law. The petition alleges that most of the farmers across the country are satisfied with the reforms made to the farmer’s law, as the current law is progressive and reformative, the troubleshooters are those people who have vested interest in not enforcing the new law.
The petition claims that as a responsible government it has taken all the measure to ensure the wellbeing of the important segment of the society, i.e., farmers, but some farmer unions, in and around Punjab and Delhi, who have vested interest in the matter are creating such misconceptions that the current bill would leave farmers in distress.
The petition also claims that the government has done everything to engage in talks with farmers but the leader of farmer’s unions is not open to engaging with the government. The petition claims that the farm laws are well deliberated, consulted, and adopted the inputs from experts and other recommendations before legislating.
