PUBG – the most trending and played game of the era. On one hand where this game became trending and most popular amongst the youth, on the other hand it has also received many criticisms by parents and teachers. Now maybe this game will be receiving some criticism from the Bombay High Court.
PUBG has up to one hundred players who parachute onto an island and scavenge for weapons and equipment. The mission is to kill others while avoiding getting killed by other players. The accessible safe space of the game's map decreases in size over time, leading living players into tighter areas to force encounters. The last player or team standing wins the game.
An 11 year old boy name Ahad Nizan has filed a PIL in Bombay HC seeking ban on the game PUBG. In his petition he claims that the game promotes immoral conduct such as violence, murder, aggression, looting, etc. It also contests that lot of youngsters have become addicted to this game resulting in several other consequences.
His PIL also contests that due to lack of Online Ethics Review Committee in India to checks can be done on such violence oriented content. He further states that the Online Review Committee in China has been banned PUBG in China on the above mentioned grounds as it has violent, aggressive contents and had made the youth addictive to the game.
He also stated that PUBG was banned by the states of Gujarat and Karnataka. The PIL also referred to the video of PM while interacting with students and parents, where a mother concerned about her son's addiction to online games. This is when PM Modi asked "Ye PUBG wala hai kya?
The PIL also cited a World Health Organization (WHO) report about 'gaming disorder' and how it has an adverse impact on the child.
