After the judgements given by the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal over 5 of the environment-related cases there has been a major impact to the Indian government revenue and also 16,000 people lost their jobs and 75,000 people got impacted by these judgements.
In recent days, NITI AAYOG has commissioned CUTS International (Consumer Unity and Trust Society International) to study on impacts that occurred as the by-product of the judgements that were passed by the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal from the year 2018 to the year 2021.

These ate the 5 cases under which the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal passed the Judgement from Mid-2018 to Mid-2021 which impacted the revenue of the Government by around Rs. 8,000 Crores and also 16,000 People have estimated to lose their jobs and 75,000 people got affected because of these judgements. The study made by CUTS international has said that in the Goa Mining Case there has been an estimated loss of Rs. 668 crores to the national Government and an estimate of Rs. 1637 Crores to the Government of Goa. These are the impacts that occurred after when the Supreme Court decided on the case to quash 88 mining leases. Because of this there has been a loss of 14,500 jobs and has impacted around 68,000 people.
Similarly in the Sterlite case, the National government has lost Rs. 7,500 crores in revenue and the state of Tamil Nadu has also lost Rs. 18,500 crores in revenue and around 1,500 people lost their jobs and an estimate of around 6,500 was impacted because of the judgement given by the Supreme Court. And in the Mopa Airport case, there is an estimated 1,500 loss of jobs and an estimate of around 6,900 people got impacted. And in the Sand Mining case, the estimated loss of revenue to the national government is around Rs. 13 crores and to the state government is around Rs. 31 crores.
The 5th case is the NCR construction Ban which was decided by the National Green Tribunal there has been a ban imposed for 15 days of stoppage of the work which has accumulated a loss worth 3 months' cost. Looking into the losses that the government have in revenue after the Judgements passed by the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal. NITI Aayog has asked for the Apex Court to look into this issue and to create an instrument to evaluate the economic losses while deciding on the Environmental related cases. NITI Aayog has asked for the Judiciary to ensure high standards of jurisprudence analysis while the is decision-making is done. The Supreme Court and National Green Tribunal have been made accountable for the loss of the revenue and have asked the respective bodies to take measures to evade giving the type of judgement that will incur a loss in revenue to the governments.
