Bombay High Court orders and the Mumbai Rail Corporation (MNRC) started cutting trees in the areas of Aarey Colony for the construction Metro 3, after the cutting of trees started, activist to save the trees with the banners "Save The Aarey" from the various parts of the city as the cutting of the trees is said to be illegal. At night several activists gathered around the area but the police prevented them to stop the process of cutting the trees, police bandpost the area to stop the activists to interfere. Some of the activists were successful in entering the barricaded area which was followed by the arguments with the police who were stopping them, though the local police commissioner denied the cutting of the trees, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation also denied the same (BMC).
There were videos and messages posted on the social media network by the activists alleging the process of cutting the trees as illegal and government is misleading the people. The social media was followed by number of posts by Bollywood actors like Swara Bhaskar tweeting about the matter, the Social activists Swapnil Makasare were the one who witnesseed of the cutting of tress and said "Few of us were able to enter the barrocaded area, but was pushed out by the policemen". He also stated that Hundred of activists gathered around the area (Proposed Car- shed area) but the policemen did not allowed them to enter the area, the activists also started protesting with the banners against MNRC.
MNRC director Ashwani Bhide saying that "This is the permission about the tree cutting in 13th September, 2019 High court dismissed the petition four times and also imposing the fine of Rs. 50,000 for the petition". Activists stated after the order by the Bombay High Court they have decided to move to the Supreme Court and National Green Tribunal (NGT) against the cutting of Aarey of trees.
