Members of Kerala State Pollution board visited the Njeliyanparamba trenching ground plant and expressed satisfaction over the operation of the treatment plant, the review of the plant was created a state wise initiation by Kerala State Pollution panel officers and therefore the team of the state level observance committee to examine non-compliance of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 that has been followed by the National Green Tribunal Order. The team of Kerala State Pollution Control Board visited the plant earlier this week to inspect the functioning and working of the Njeliyenparamba plant and whether the plant is complying with solid waste management rules, 2016 or not.
The inspection gains momentum as the PCB has imposed environment compensation to the tune of Rs 10.05 crore to Kochin corporation for failure of complying with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016. The satisfactory remarks and no surroundings compensation area unit an excellent action for the kozhikode corporation because the civic body is handling the waste treatment plant at the Njeliyanparama trenching ground plant by its own since August, 2019. The Civic Body took over the plant corporation after the New Delhi based infrastructure leasing and financing services stopped operating the plant since the financial crisis in July.
According to the corporation workplace, out of thousand homes within the corporation limit, the door to door waste assortment covers 82500 homes within the 55 wards has an effective facility for the segregation of degradable and non-degradable waste. The treatment plant at the Njeliyanparamba has the capacity 100 tonnes of waste per day. It has additionally established plastic works and Material Recovery Facility Centre at West Hill Industrial Estate for the disposal of degradable solid, plastic waste and non-degradable waste. The Chairman of the Kerala State Pollution Control Board said that "We are satisfied with the sincere efforts taken by the corporation authorities to address the disposal of solid waste and non-degradable waste".
