The Delhi court stayed the release of a film based on the life of ICICI Bank CEO Chanda Kochhar. The additional District Judge Sandeep Garg clearly instructed the filmmakers and the stakeholders to not refer to the name of Chanda directly or indirectlty in their upcoming movie Chanda: A signature that ruined a career. They have also been instructed not to promote the movie without Kochhar’s explicit permission.
Kochhar’s advocates Vijay Aggarwal and Naman Joshi sought an injunction to the movie right before it was t be screened at the Goa Film Festival. During the proceedings, the petitioner voiced strong dissent to the lead actress’s claims in the film regarding the life of Kochhar. She herself has been under strict scrutiny from the CBI and ED. Her advocates complained that under the present circumstances, she is being portrayed as a money launderer although she is still on trial and the case has not reached its completion. “Making of such alleged bio pics and their release as well as promotional interviews and material vilifying the Plaintiff are extremely prejudicial to the investigation and the trial.”
The Court has granted an interim relief to Kochhar and scheduled a hearing for a later date.
