Vizag Gas leak: On Thursday morning, at 3 am reportedly a leakage happened at LG Polymers industry at RR Venkatapuram. As per reports, the gas leakage has resulted into death of at least 10 persons, including two senior citizens and an 8-year old girl, and over 5000 people fell sick.

PM Narendra Modi has called for a meeting with NDMA (National Disaster Management Authority), in the wake of the situation in Vishakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh). Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah also attended the meeting.  PM Modi tweeted that the situation is being closely monitored. AP Industries Minister MG Reddy said that the South Korean Company managing this has to be responsible for gas leak. “They’ll have to come and explain to us exactly what all protocols were followed, and what all were not followed. Accordingly, criminal action will be taken against them, he further added.

The incident created a sense of panic among the locals within 3km radius area. At the early hour, many people were found lying unconscious on road while the others faced breathing difficulties. Locals also complained of body rashes and burning eyes. The cause of incident is yet to be identified and curtained. The NDRF and SDRF teams have been deployed in the area and rescue operation is undergoing. CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy is also scheduled to visit the affected city and take note of the situation. The LG polymers Industry was established in 1961 as Hindustan Polymers. It was merged with Mc Dowell & Company ltd of UB group in 1978.

A help line number 1800 4250 0009 has been made available for any assistance in regard to the gas leak. Hundreds of people have been admitted to King George Hospital with the help of police and locals. PM also spoke to Chief Minister assuring him help and support over the matter.

Andhra Pradesh DGP Damodar Goutam Sawang told that the gas has been neutralised. "One of the antidotes is drinking a lot of water. Around 800 were shifted to hospital, many have been discharged," he said.
