Cyclone Amphan kills 72 in West Bengal, brings life to a halt
The whole Nation is facing a big Distress because of COVID-19 and there are problems coming one after another. Recently, Cyclone Amphan emerged in many states including West Bengal and created a havoc for people in those States. The super Cyclone Amphan has caused death of 72 in the state of West Bengal. Mamata Banerjee, Chief minister of the state said fifteen of the deceased were from kolkata. For taking the stock of damage she held a meeting with senior officials at the state Secretariat and mentioned that she has not seen such level of disaster in her life. Additionally, she said ““I haven’t seen such a disaster in my entire life. I will ask the Prime Minister to visit the State and see it for himself.” The toll of death of 72 people in the state comprises of eight districts. South Parganas recorded the maximum of 18 deaths, 17 in north 24 Parganas. Hoogly, hawrah, purba medinipur and Nadia also recorded deaths. Theain reasons for the deaths was falling of trees, collapse of old houses and poorly built infrastructure and electrocution. The worst affected areas by the cyclones were kakdwip and Namkahana in South 24 pargana and Minakha and Hingalganj in North 24 Parganas, these made landfall near Sagar island. Though the damages were recorded from 8 districts but the majority hit areas were the coastal areas. A large number of “Kutch houses” were damaged in two districts and major part of Sunderbans Police district were badly damaged because of the super Cyclone, having four-five meters above the tide level. As soon as the connectivity is resorted, the CM will visit for assisting damages. According to CM, the state government has set up a 1000- crore relief fund and around five lakh people have been evacuated and are surviving in cyclones shelters. On Thursday afternoon, the super Cyclone moved Eastward and crossed over Bengal and reached Bangladesh.
