On Thursday, The Health Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswas Sarma said that any misconduct in the quarantine centres will amount to non-bailable charges which will be equal to “attempt to murder”.
The minister said so because of reports of ruckus created by inmates in at least two quarantine centres in Bongaigaon and Chirang districts.
Mr Sharma stated that any type of resistance created in the duties of the health workers or any kind of misconduct will lead to arrest and they will be charged under non-bailable charges such as an attempt to murder.
He addressed that patients can contact him directly if they face any such problems in the quarantine centre. He has attained to the problems raised by such people on social media. In Bangaigaon’s quarantine centre, inmates had allegedly abused the health caretakers over the food provided. Some has fled from the quarantine centre in Chirang. On being caught, they also complained about the food quality.
A health worker stated that they have been going through a very sensitive time and the moral of the health workers should not be affected by such matter. Such negligence by the inmates of the quarantine centre will also put others’ lives at risk. Thus, proper action must be taken.
By the last few days, there have been many such incidents where the inmates are misbehaving with the health workers.
