The High Court of Madhya Pradesh in a circular dated 5 June 2020 extended the limited functioning of both the High Court and its subordinate courts to 13 June 2020. The Court also issued directions on the functioning of Courts to contain COVID-19 spread.
The Court had directed the suspension and subsequent restriction of the functioning of high courts and subordinate courts through its first notification regarding the lockdown on 24 March 2020. From 4 May, the courts were directed to deal only with urgent matters and this restricted functioning was expected to continue until 7 June 2020. The Court has agreed to issue directions to prevent any risk of spreading cases at Corona provided that containment zones in Madhya Pradesh State have changed from time to time.
The functioning of all the court campus falling in the containment zones will be suspended and only urgent work will be carried out from the Judicial Officers' residence as directed by the District Judge via video conferencing until the area is declared a non-containment zone. Judicial officers whose residence falls inside the containment zone do not attend court until a non-containment area is designated for their residential area.
Except for Subordinate Courts in districts of Indore, Ujjain and Bhopal where only urgent matters will be heard, the limited functioning of the High Court and subordinate courts has been extended until June 13,2020. The Bench at Indore at the High Court will hear urgent cases via video conferencing with the minimum staff required until June 13.
