The registrar General of High Court on Friday conveyed that physical hearing would continue in the subordinate courts of various districts in Tamil Nadu.
The Administrative Committee of the High Court has decided that the physical functioning of all subordinate courts in 28 districts of Tamil Nadu and UT of Puducherry would continue.
This was stated in reviewing the situation considering the Pandemic.
These districts are:
Dharmapuri, The Nilgiris, Krishnagiri, Tiruvarur, Theni, Ramanathapuram, Nagapattinam, Karur, Sivagangai, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Erode, Pudukkottai, Cuddalore, Namakkal, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Kanniyakumari, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Salem, Thanjavur, Thoothukudi, Tiruchirapalli, Tirunelveli, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, and Villupuram.
It is to be noted that the courts in Madurai will not re-open due to the district-wide lockdown, as per the government order dated June 22, until June 30, 2020.
The official memorandum issued concerning these states
“The Hon'ble Administrative Committee directs to continue the functioning of subordinate Courts in 28 Districts (except Periyakulam Taluk in Theni District) in exclusion of Madurai District in the State of Tamil Nadu, and in the Union Territory of Puducherry, in the same manner until further orders, subject to any further decisions in this regard."
The decision to open subordinate courts in 10 districts was taken by the Administrative Committee on June 5, 2020. Afterward, the relaxation was extended to 19 more districts that included Madurai pertaining to the circular dated June 18, Although the decision concerning reopening of courts in Madurai was suspended till June 30, considering the announcement of lockdown.
