Cyber-crime in India has surged admits the country’s unprecedented coronavirus lockdown. Due to high increase in the cases of the COVID-19, lockdown was introduced by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After, this lockdown cases of COVID-19 growth rate have become slow but on the other hand the cases of Cyber-attacks increased at high rate.
The extreme measures have been accompanied by a dramatic rise in the cases of the cyber-crime. Attacks have soared 86% in the four weeks roughly between March and April, according to a recent Reuters report quoting India Home Ministry officials and detailing “fake offers that Reliance Industries telecom Jio and streaming service Netflix Inc were offering discounted services” during the lockdown.
National Cyber Security Coordinator (NCSC) said that the cyber criminals had launched thousands of the fraud portals related to coronavirus into making donations. One of the biggest cyber attacks was related to the “PM CARES” coronavirus fund, established by the Prime Minister office. At least half a dozen of fake websites was launched so that the person who want to donate money they can take it fraudulently. In this pandemic time people are not getting back to make such type of crimes.
Internet Service Provider has said that the complaints from the corporate clients come on the daily basis and now it’s becoming normal during the lockdown. “There could be as much as a 500% increase in cyber security incidents since march. Most of the attacks are below the radar and the include attacks on the small companies, money lost, phishing.
Now, it’s very important to have law in this issue. Because it’s becoming a big concern for the society and many of the persons are there who are been affected because of these cyber-attacks and facing many losses.
Many of the companies now is on alert mode in this increasing cyber attack time. Like Anticipating a flurry of cyberattacks, telecom and the internet services providers have been on alert. Bharti Airtel recently upgraded its security operations centre to a higher threat-level status for the next 5-7 days in the wake of cyberattacks. Cyber- crime is increasing with high pace because of COVID-19 lockdown but this is not the problem that is arising today but it constitutes a serious problems for India even outside of crisis. more than 550 million Indians have connected to the internet in recent years fuelled by rural growth. So, it’s become high time to take strict action against it.
