Students of Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL) have moved P&H high court questioning university's notification instructing the student to pay full fee amid COVID 19 pandemics (Aditya Kashyap & ors Vs State of Punjab & anr).
The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law passed a notification dated July 27th instructing all its students to pay full fees for the upcoming semester of rupees 1,35,500 by July 10th and also included a penalty of Rs 1000 per day for delay in payment after the due date.
Additional Solicitor General Chettan Mittal and advocates Sarthak Gupta, Varun Issar, Sahej Sandhwalia represented 6 students ( Aditya Kashyap and ors) which assisted to file a petition before P&H high court as they termed the notification issued by the university as arbitrary, illegal and violating the basic principles of equity.
The matter was listed before single judge bench justice BS Walia as it required immediate attention of the court. Eventually, the court granted time for the respondents to file a response before the final hearing on July 22.
Meanwhile, Advocate for the respondent submitted before the court that no penalty would be attracted to the delay in payment of fees for the upcoming semester.

Basing all the above grounds the petitioners termed the irrational notifications issued by RGNUL as 'arbitrary, capricious'
