Delhi police has submitted an affidavit before the High Court of Delhi claiming that no evidence have been found indicating any role of BJP leaders Anurag Thakur, Kapil Mishra and Parvesh Verma in participating or instigating the Delhi riots.
The affidavit sworn by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Legal Cell, Rajesh Deo also stated that if they find any evidences of the linking of the alleged hateful speeches with the riots, appropriate FIRs will be filed against them.
The affidavit was submitted to the division bench of the high court comprising of the Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan, in response to the batch of petitions filed in the court seeking registration of FIRs for the alleged statements made by the leaders that instigated the riots in February.
The affidavit also submitted that a total of 751 criminal cases have been filed under various provisions of IPC, UAPA and Arms Act, and three Special Investigation Teams (SIT) headed by DCPs have been formed to investigate the cases.
Delhi Police also claimed that, the initial investigation revealed that, the riots were not a result of a sudden instigation or violence but appears to be a part of well thought conspiracy for disturbing the harmony in the society.
The Police argued that the petitioners are trying to find some agenda, also the crime branch submitted that the riots were carefully planned and funded by the mischievous elements, who in the motivation of their agendas instilled state the fear and panic in the minds of a specific section of society and forced them to take actions on their own.
The report claimed that the petitioners are trying to take the attention of the court away from the true facts and argued that the use of the words like ‘political vendetta’, ‘malicious prosecution’ appears to be a part of a pre decided agenda and reflects the lack bona-fide intention.
It was submitted that some petitioners through PILs are seeking quashing of FIRs and anticipatory bail, which is “utter abuse” of PIL Jurisdiction.
