The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), on Tuesday 12th January, registered a First Information Report (F.I.R.) against over ten people, two of whom were lawyers.
The F.I.R. has been registered under Section 120 – B of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 7, 7A, 8, and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act.
Section 120 – B of the Indian Penal Code is the provision for criminal conspiracy and Sections 7, 7A, 8 and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act are provisions regarding bribing public servants and abetting bribery.
CBI reports that they received information that the accused were compromising the integrity of the investigation in some cases and that this was being done at the cost of financial consideration.
Pursuant to this, they filed this case and registered this F.I.R.
The accused include three CBI officers, one stenographer, two lawyers, three directors of companies that were being investigated by the CBI, and the police officers that have been alleged to have been bribed by the other accused.
It has been alleged that two of the CBI Officers, R.K. Sangwan and R.K. Rishi, have paid the third CBI Officer, Kapil Dhankad, an amount of twenty lac rupees in bribery for confidential information regarding the ongoing investigation.
The two lawyers, Manohar Malik and Arvind Gupta have been alleged to have paid bribery for a sum amounting to over 15 lac rupees. It is also being claimed that they did this to aid in a corruption case registered against a company based in Chandigarh.
The F.I.R. also states that the stenographer, Sameer Kumar Singh, gave out confidential information, including confidential notes and directions, regarding ongoing investigations to several of the accused in exchange for financial consideration.
The F.I.R. then goes on to say that the accused have conspired within themselves and with others to engage in the act of giving and receiving bribery and have abetted the same.
