Punjabi actor Deep Sidhu was produced before Metropolitan Magistrate Prigya Gupta at Tis Hazari court on February 10 following his arrest by the Special Cell of Delhi Police the day before concerning the violence that occurred on January 26 this year amidst the farmers' protest.
According to Delhi Police Deep Sidhu is the main accused of instigating the mob to deviate from the route previously decided by an agreement between the police and the protestors and to break barricades with tractors.
The actor had been a major face of the protests ever since the farmers began their 'Delhi Chalo' march to rebel against the three agricultural bills that were passed by the Modi government under Indian Farm Reforms 2020. Deep Sidhu uploaded quite a few videos during the protests which he had uploaded on Facebook. In one of the videos, he was seen quarrelling with the police force to remove the barricades and falsely claiming that the bills intend to snatch the land of the farmers. In another video, he sneaked under the barbed wires to ask the cops to remove the blockades and when requested to go back to Punjab as the necessary COVID guidelines had not been issues yet. However, when the actor and his supporters were requested by a police officer to wear masks and maintain social distancing they argued that no one wore a mask in Bihar during the elections. He also made a post on Facebook where he called the new farm bills an act of 'state terrorism' by the BJP government and verbally attacked the Prime Minister with a classist comment, saying that he is running a country and not a tea stall, referring to Modi's past.
A few weeks before sharing such posts and videos on Facebook, Deep Sidhu had sacked a lawyer named Hakam Singh from the management of Shambhu Morcha for displaying objection against pro-Khalistan slogans and registered an FIR against him.
