The normal functioning of the court was suspended In March 2020, and since then, virtual hearings have been conducted by the court and physical hearings were held in a very restricted manner. The Delhi High Court has decided to resume normal functioning which is to commence from March 15. It was decided by the court that virtual hearings will continue till March 12. During the pandemic situation, physical hearings were conducted by the court in September 2020. All the physical hearings were conducted on the premises of the court in a very restricted manner.
The court decided to allow the parties and/or their counsel to connect to the proceedings through video conferencing with respect to the accessibility of the organizational structure and facility. It was decided that the 11 benches will conduct hearings physically itself in the court whereas the remaining would be held through video conferencing. Throughout the pandemic, the proceedings have been conducted virtually and so, the court has finally decided to resume the physical functioning of the court.
The court had already directed that the advocates, litigants, and other visitor must follow the rules related to the social distancing to avoid the spread of Covid-19 which is instructed by the Government of India, and Government of NCT of Delhi. Since January 18, 2021, the eleven Benches of the High Court- two District Benches, three Single Benches (Civil), three Single Benches (Criminal), and three Original Jurisdiction Benches had already started the normal hearings in the court. While the other Bench are following the electronic mode where the court proceedings are conducted. In the previous month, the Delhi High Court have already passed the decision Chief Justice DN Patel was requested by the Court to begin the normal functioning of the court in the capital.
