On perusal of a plea filed by the NGO Legal Forum for women seeking provision of drinking water, medical facilities and sanitation facilities, at the locations of duty of respective traffic personnel: A Delhi High Court Bench comprising Chief Justice DN Patel and C Hari Shankar describes those as “bare minimum” facilities required to be made available. The Delhi High Court has asked the Commissioner of Police whether facilities, includes drinking water, medical checkup and sanitation have been provided to such traffic police personnel during their duty hours.
The Court has, in furtherance of the same instructed the Commissioner of Police to file an affidavit responding to whether or not the basic amenities of - drinking water/sanitation/ and medical chek ups have been provided to the police personnel during their hours of duty. The contents of the plea filed by the NGO claimed that personnel carrying out duties in areas of high pollution levels ,extreme unbearable weather conditions, are deprived of the least expected aspects of exgratia and insurance.
As a result of several queries filed under the Right to Information Act, it has been realised that neither the Ministry of Home Affairs nor the Delhi Government have any support scheme in place so as to provide water ,sanitation, or health benefits to the traffic personnel on-duty.
