Many spiritual gurus have had emarked on journeys that are now a part our heritgae, one of them was Guru Ravidas, who is associated with Bhakti Movement in the 15th century covering the northern parts of India.
A temple was made in the name Guru Ravidas in Delhi's Tughlakabad for his contribution for Ravidasia community in the society and soon became as an enlightening figure for the Dalits.
The land allocated for the temple by then emperor, Sikander Lodhi, is also considered as birthplace of Guru Ravidas.
The temple was made in the forest area of Tughlakabad , the community inhabiting there was known to have committed a breach by not abiding by the orders regarding vacation if the area by the Supreme Court.
The Apex Court, on being prayed by Delhi Development Authority (DDA) for an intervention, came to the decision that the standing structure should be dismantled peacefully with the help of Delhi Government Officials and police. Complying with the orders of Apex Court, the structure was removed however it resulted into a huge upproar against the public. The issue got politicised, the uproar originated in the northern region -demanding rebuilding of the sacred temple.
The counsel of the Ravidas Samiti contended that the issue should have been dealt with more seriousness and maturity the way it has been done in Ayodhya case.
A "bandh" declared on Tuesday in places like Kapurthala, Phagwara , Jalandharand Hoshiarpur , most services were remained suspended while educational institutions were ordered to be closed by the authorities as a precautionary measure. The schedule transport services were also done away with amidst the strike. The strike also had an impact in places like Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bathinda and Gurdaspur.
Punjab CM Amarinder Singh on Sunday sought intervention by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in order to satiate the community leaders, who gathered around under the banner of the Guru Ravidas Jayanti Samaroh Samiti and announced they would observe Independence Day as a 'black day' against the demolition.
The bench led by Justice Arun Mishra said that such nuisance shouldn't occur and the matter should not be politicised. The bench further observed:
"Don't speak a word and don't aggravate the issue. You are in for contempt. We will haul up your entire management. We will see what has to be done."
"You cannot go on and on and make comments and criticism of the judgment. This is the Supreme Court. Don't invoke politics here," the bench said.
To comply with the SC orders, senior officials of Delhi Police, SDM from Delhi government along with DDA's senior officials and Guru Ravi Das Jayanti Samaro Samiti members were to be present on site in Jahanpanah forests on August 10 and the structure was peacefully vacated and dismantled by DDA.
