Legalization of Marijuana
India after withstanding the pressure for 25 years, from it's Western counterpart in 1986 gave in the demand and clubbed marijuana with other hard drugs and criminalizied it. However, making it illegal didn't make any betterment for India rather it got worse, the production, consumption and illegal marketing of it went to peak. Marijuana has always found a bound in public through high faith and mysticism. However, stringent implementation of narcotic laws made its sale difficult.
Many countries recently have legalised marijuana for its greater good and positive response for no psychotic disorders. In this change, India has actively participated, on 7 November 2019, the Delhi High Court sought the government's stand on a petition filed the 'Great Legalization Movement India Trust' to decriminalise the use of cannabis. The petitioner challenged the provisions for the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, which criminalise the use of cannabis as violative of various provisions of the Constitution of India.
Uttarakhand has actively been the flag bearer for the same. However, many are still opposing the consumption as the youths are getting affected but, in the future India might legalise the usage for the medical and other important purposes.
